A Quick Evening's Work

I HELPED ANANDA SET UP HER BOOTH FOR THE PARADISE CITY ARTS FESTIVAL IN NORTHAMPTON LAST NIGHT. AFTER DOING SHOWS REGULARLY FOR YEARS, SHE'S REALLY GOT THE BOOTH SET UP DOWN. IT WAS EFFICIENT AND QUICK! EACH EXHIBITOR CREATES A LITTLE WORLD IN THEIR 10' X 10' SPACE.

MY SISTER JANE VISTED ME THIS WEEKEND. WE HAD A LOVELY TIME TOODLING ABOUT, LOOKING AT ART, AND ENJOYING THIS COFFEE BREAK AT THE HAYMARKET IN NORTHAMPTON.

A Fresh Start - Daunting, But Fresh

BECAUSE MY HOME IS IN THE WOODS, AND THE YARD IS NOT SUITABLE FOR GARDENING, I'VE SIGNED UP FOR A 20' X 20' PLOT HERE, AT THE MILL LANE COMMUNITY GARDEN. IT LOOKS RATHER GRIM HERE, DOESN'T IT?

IT'S ONLY BECAUSE THIS YEAR'S GARDENING HASN'T STARTED UP YET, AND IT WAS ABOUT TO STORM WHEN I TOOK THE PHOTO THIS AFTERNOON. BETWEEN THE GARDEN PLOTS, THERE ARE RIOTS OF PERENNIAL COMFREY AND MINT, GONE WILD.

MY PLOT WILL BE IN THIS NEWLY PLOWED AREA, WEST OF THE RUMPLED, LIVED IN, OLDER PLOTS.

IT'S STILL TO BE HARROWED, BUT I THINK I'LL BE PICKING A LOT OF STONES OUT OF THIS SOIL, DON'T YOU? IT LOOKS LIKE A LOT OF WORK AHEAD FOR THE REWARD OF SOME TOMATOES, ARUGULA AND GREEN BEANS! BUT I HAVE DREAMS OF GARLIC COMING UP IN MY RAISED BEDS NEXT SPRING!
